The Summit Technology Academy (STA) of the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District is a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) based school that combines core academic training with high tech industry needs. This one-of-a-kind facility is a top training and recruiting school for area firms and colleges that want highly focused curricula and students. Colleges and local industries routinely recruit graduates at premium starting salaries. STA prepares students for both college and careers. Former STA students attend highly selective colleges such as MU, KU, MIT and MS&T. Approximately 87 percent of the graduates attend a 2 or 4-year college with a variety of STEM majors. STA course work is designed to provide practical applications of core area subjects as they relate to the use of science and technology. STA is one of the few, if not the only, highs school located entirely within the confines of the industrial/manufacturing setting. This presents a unique opportunity for direct interaction with technical experts in the fields of study that are being taught and reinforcement of all curricula related to success in the real world. The direct access of technical experts and the opportunity for students to see concepts applied in the real world setting make the learning experiences gained at STA extremely powerful.
