The Eastern Jackson County Training Consortium received $67,200 from Missouri for
the fiscal year that ends June 30. The consortium was formed thanks to the leadership of the Lee’s Summit Economic Development
Council and other area councils who understand the importance of quality, well-trained employees.
Andrew Filla, program director for the Metropolitan Community
Colleges Business & Technology College, said the grant represents the full amount that was requested and more than
two-thirds of the consortium's fiscal-year budget of $100,000. With the state budget strained by the economic
slowdown, Filla said, receiving the full request is a coup.
Congratulations go out to LSEDC Board Member and Consortium Chairman Ron Haughton and Business Consultant Jennifer
Yazell for all their hard work. We also thank the Lee’s Summit companies who participate in the consortium: Toys
R’ Us, Billy Goat Industries, Fab Tech, Polytainers, Plastic Enterprises and Calmar. Also, thanks go out to Dr.
Fred Grogan at Longview Community College for his work in helping establish the consortium through the community
college system. The consortium serves 11 companies
employing about 3,000 people in Eastern Jackson County. One of its top priorities is improving training for
supervisors and front-line employees. |

As the LSEDC has grown, there has been some thought to adding another form of
investor communication. Particularly for our newer members, would you be interested in an informal morning coffee on a quarterly
basis? A time and location is yet to be determined. We currently hold monthly board meetings, quarterly investor luncheons,
distribute our quarterly electronic newsletter, produce an annual report and other reports, and submit bi-weekly articles to the
Lee’s Summit Journal as ways of keeping our members up-to-date. But is this enough? That’s what we’d like to know.
Please e-mail
jdevine@leessummit.org and let us know your opinion of the quarterly coffee idea. If you
have another suggestion that would be great, too. |

Dues and contribution notices have been mailed to all LSEDC Investors. As a
reminder, many of you may want to write your check before the end of the year.
If you have questions about your
investment please contact Jim Devine at 816-525-6617 or
