Data Showcases Lee’s Summit Advantages
At the quarterly investor luncheon, we plan to release “Lee’s Summit by the Numbers” a compilation of census and other data about our community and its business climate.  The report is informative and should be useful as you plan and grow your business.  It will also be on our web site.
Training Consortium Wins State Funding
The Eastern Jackson County Training Consortium received $67,200 from Missouri for the fiscal year that ends June 30. The consortium was formed thanks to the leadership of the Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council and other area councils who understand the importance of quality, well-trained employees.

Andrew Filla, program director for the Metropolitan Community Colleges Business & Technology College, said the grant represents the full amount that was requested and more than two-thirds of the consortium's fiscal-year budget of $100,000. With the state budget strained by the economic slowdown, Filla said, receiving the full request is a coup.

Congratulations go out to LSEDC Board Member and Consortium Chairman Ron Haughton and Business Consultant Jennifer Yazell for all their hard work. We also thank the Lee’s Summit companies who participate in the consortium: Toys R’ Us, Billy Goat Industries, Fab Tech, Polytainers, Plastic Enterprises and Calmar. Also, thanks go out to Dr. Fred Grogan at Longview Community College for his work in helping establish the consortium through the community college system.

The consortium serves 11 companies employing about 3,000 people in Eastern Jackson County. One of its top priorities is improving training for supervisors and front-line employees.

New Building on Lee’s Summit Landscape
Meyer Brothers Building Company is opening a three-story Class A office building late next year. Located at Douglas and I-470 just east of the Hampton Inn, the building totals 48,600 sq. ft.

Dave Meyer reports that negotiations are underway with prospective tenants for the first two floors…companies not currently located in Lee’s Summit. The third floor will be an office suites and business center facility operated by Lauri Meyer. Lee’s Summit Office Suites will offer individual office space with conference rooms, a full spectrum of amenities and support services including word processing, photocopying, fax transmission, mail services and personalized telephone answering and a state-of-the-art telephone system.  Clients will be charged only for the services utilized.

Meyer Brothers’ previous projects in the city include construction of Summit Woods Shopping Center, Colt Technologies, Lee’s Summit Honda, Dave Cross Motors and Missouri Table and Chair.

Metcraft Locates in Lee’s Summit
Say hello to another new Lee’s Summit manufacturing and assembly business.  Metcraft will be opening its doors in a 25,000 sf building on Thompson Drive in the LeMone Smith Business and Rail Park on MO 291 south.

The firm produces stainless steel products for schools and correctional institutions. Start up employment will be 10 growing to 30 over the next several years.

Lee’s Summit residents Paul and Kim Ryan are principals in the firm.

Would You Like a Cup of Coffee?
As the LSEDC has grown, there has been some thought to adding another form of investor communication. Particularly for our newer members, would you be interested in an informal morning coffee on a quarterly basis? A time and location is yet to be determined. We currently hold monthly board meetings, quarterly investor luncheons, distribute our quarterly electronic newsletter, produce an annual report and other reports, and submit bi-weekly articles to the Lee’s Summit Journal as ways of keeping our members up-to-date. But is this enough? That’s what we’d like to know.

Please e-mail jdevine@leessummit.org and let us know your opinion of the quarterly coffee idea. If you have another suggestion that would be great, too.

Year-end Reminder
Dues and contribution notices have been mailed to all LSEDC Investors. As a reminder, many of you may want to write your check before the end of the year.

If you have questions about your investment please contact Jim Devine at 816-525-6617 or jdevine@leessummit.org.

Mary Stacy Recognition Reception
Your LSEDC is proud to assist in hosting the Recognition Reception for Mary Stacy, outgoing executive director of Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street. Please join us downtown at the Victorian Peddler Restaurant from 5 to 8 p.m., January 10 as we say, “job well done” to our good friend, Mary. At 6:30 p.m., Mayor Messerli will conduct a special recognition presentation for Mary. Many of you know Mary for her years of service to our community, including being LSEDC’s first executive assistant when we were housed at the R-7 School District. Many thanks to our sponsors for this event: Aquila, Bank of Lee’s Summit, Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street, Commerce Bank, First National Bank, First Community Bank, Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce, Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council, Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation Department, Lee’s Summit Hospital, David Gale, Gold Bank,  Dale Hartley and the R-7 School District.
Any Comments?

Our goal is to provide you with useful information in a useful format. Have we succeeded? Do you have suggestions? Do you want to be dropped from our distribution list? Please let me know at jdevine@leessummit.orgMay your holidays be safe and full of joy and thanksgiving.
