The historic visit July 24 by President Barack Obama to the University of Central Missouri to tout the university’s partnership with metro area businesses, Metropolitan Community College and the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District was met with unbridled enthusiasm by most of the nearly dozen-and-a-half students enrolled in the program at Summit Technology Academy in Lee’s Summit.
Why Obama will tout the Missouri Innovation Campus on Wednesday
During President Barack Obama’s visit to the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo., on Wednesday, 17 students will sit behind him on stage as a representation of a new class of students jumping on board a streamlined path to their career.
Obama plans to tout a new program those 17 students are involved in. It’s designed by the University of Central Missouri, Metropolitan Community College and the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District, and falls in line with Obama’s goal to reduce the costs of education and get students ready for the workforce.
Automated Motion expected to create 14 new full-time jobs
Lee’s Summit-based Automated Motion, Inc., an engineering and manufacturing company, will be expanding its Lee’s Summit facility.
The expansion was announced in June.
According to the Missouri Department of Economic Development, the expansion includes a $1,648,000 capital investment and is expected to create 14 new full-time jobs.

Lee’s Summit Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health System-Kansas City’s largest healthcare network-announced that Lee’s Summit Medical Center CEO Jackie DeSouza has been named to Modern Healthcare’s list of Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare. The list was published Apr. 7 on Modern Healthcare’s web site and in its April 9 print edition of Modern Healthcare magazine.
Those selected to the Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare are chosen by a panel of judges from applications submitted to Modern Healthcare. Candidates selected must have successfully served as a leader in a healthcare organization, shown the ability or power to effect change in the healthcare industry, demonstrated a willingness to share expertise with others in the field, served as a role model or mentor to other minority healthcare executives, and assumed a leadership position in the industry outside their organization.

Recently the Missouri Small Business and Technology Development Centers (MO SBTDC) and the Missouri Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (MO PTAC) selected LSEDC investor, ce2lTM, an accredited energy and environmental testing company, as one of the Rising Stars of Innovation and Entrepreneurship for 2012. ce2l was among 22 outstanding small businesses in Missouri honored by members of the General Assembly on January 19, at a business showcase in Jefferson City. ce2l also received a legislative resolution, honoring its impact on the economic development of the state.
