Economic Development Council and Chamber of Commerce Support R-7 School District No-Tax-Increase Bond Issue

LEE'S SUMMIT, MO (March 22, 2010) - The leadership of the Lee's Summit Economic Development Council (LSEDC) and the Lee's Summit Chamber of Commerce have both passed resolutions of support for the R-7 School District No-Tax-Increase $16 Million Bond Issue, which will be on the April 6, 2010 election ballot.

The R-7 School District is nationally acclaimed and one of the fastest growing in Missouri. "The overwhelming success of the R-7 School District attracts new employers, families and individuals who seek a high-quality education system to our community," said LSEDC President and CEO, Jim Devine. "The high performing schools are critical to LSEDC's mission of attracting and retaining investment in Lee's Summit."

"Because students educated in the R-7 School District are the future employers, employees and leaders of Lee's Summit, a quality school district is extremely important to the business community," added Nancy Bruns, President of the Lee's Summit Chamber of Commerce.

Both organizations voted in favor of the bond issue because it is designed to address a comprehensive list of projects that impact facility needs at existing schools while benefiting students throughout the entire school district. The Lee's Summit R-7 Board of Education unanimously approved its Citizens' Advisory Committee recommendation to include 14 projects on the April 6 Election, including:
• Capital improvements at a number of schools
• Technology enhancements
• Energy-saving upgrades
• New school buses
• Funds to purchase land for a future high school site
