The Economic Development Marketer of the Year Award recognizes the community with the most successful economic development-marketing program.
The Lee's Summit Economic Development Council has implemented a strong marketing program, consisting of a four-strategy plan approved by the board of directors, the city council, investors and customers alike. The strategies include improving community products, retaining and attracting businesses, attracting targeted industries and improving the community's image. The Lee's Summit area is experiencing continued growth despite the challenging economic times, due to its marketing tools, such as direct mail campaigns, special events, public relations efforts and Web site development.
"Attracting and retaining businesses has become more competitive, therefore a successful marketing program can make an important difference in a community's efforts to attract industries and the jobs and investments they create," said Missouri Department of Economic Development Director Joseph L. Driskill. "Congratulations to the Lee's Summit Economic Development Council, winner of the Economic Development Marketer of the Year Award."
