In addition to the success of its public school district, Lee’s Summit is known for its innovative, community-based approach to education and workforce-readiness programs. The city is home to the Summit Technology Academy at the Missouri Innovation Campus, a progressive collaboration among Metropolitan Community College, the University of Central Missouri, the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District and participating business partners. The MIC grants business partners a seat at the table to determine which skills should be taught, in order to make the program’s career-driven students valuable associates of their business. Students, as part of an accelerated program, work with industry mentors to graduate high school with a high school diploma, associate degree and invaluable hands-on experience.
