LSR-7 School Board recognizes awards, overall achievement at December meeting
The Missouri Innovation Campus (MIC) has received 13 national and regional architecture and design awards since opening in the fall of 2017. Home to Summit Technology Academy, MIC is a progressive initiative that allows high school graduates to earn a college degree in two years with little to zero debt. Partners include the University of Central Missouri, Metropolitan Community College, the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District, community organizations and businesses partners.
“The significance of these numerous regional and national awards is that they demonstrate the innovation and excellence of both the design of the MIC building itself and the learning programs and partnerships that the building supports,” said David Reid, principal of Gould Evans Associates, MIC’s architecture firm of record. “It is rare for one project to be so widely recognized by organizations that focus solely on architectural design, while simultaneously being recognized by organizations that focus solely on educational planning. This is something that all the MIC stakeholders and partners should be very proud of.”
At its December 2018 meeting, the LS R-7 School Board publicly recognized the achievement of the awards and the project partners that contributed to MIC’s development and success, including Gould Evans, DLR Group, and McCownGordon Construction. Reid of Gould Evans and Kevin Greischar of DLR Group attended the meeting and were praised for their architecture, design and engineering achievement.
