Lee’s Summit has become the “go-to” community for healthcare in the surrounding area. John Knox Village, Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Saint Luke’s East Hospital and Truman Medical Center are the largest industry players in the community with a combined 3,988 employees. Each of our many healthcare providers has seen growth through expansion and job creation. The continued investment in large hospitals has contributed to an increase in medial office space. From 2012-2017, Lee’s Summit saw a 12 percent growth in the healthcare industry with an average earning per job of $83,151. Over the next four years, registered nurses are expected to be the top occupation for growth at a 6 percent rate. The city is home to more than 2,200 residents who hold an associate degree or above and are employed in the Lee’s Summit healthcare industry.
Workforce Education
Through a one-of-a-kind collaboration with the Lee’s Summit R-7 school district, local colleges and universities and industry leaders, Lee’s Summit strives to create a competitive, highly-trained workforce beginning from post-secondary education through a four-year degree. Lee’s Summit is home to numerous educational institutions that offer advanced training for health/medical professionals.
- Summit Technology Academy offers professional training for careers in Allied Health, Professional Nursing and Medical Intervention/Biomedical Innovation. The program allows students to begin their junior year of high school.
- Metropolitan Community College - Longview in Lee's Summit offers nearly a dozen healthcare programs in which students are able to earn a degree or certificate.
- The University of Central Missouri Lee’s Summit campus offers a variety of certificates and degrees to prepare students for a career in healthcare including Nursing and Bioinformatics.

Lee’s Summit is 16 miles southeast of downtown Kansas City and is one of the fastest-growing communities in the state of Missouri. With a current population of 99,290, the city offers companies and residents a thriving local economy, award-winning schools, nimble workforce and training programs, plentiful public and private investment, diverse housing stock and coveted community lifestyle amenities.
