The centralized location allows for a variety of cost-effective transportation options. Lee’s Summit is accessible to two federal interstates (I-470 and I-70), two federal highways (U.S. 50 and U.S. 71) and one state highway (M 291) making it possible to ship to most markets in the U.S. within two days. The City of Lee’s Summit also owns two rail spurs serviced by Union Pacific. Companies in Lee’s Summit employ nearly 1,800 manufacturing workers. From 2012-2017, the manufacturing industry in Lee’s Summit saw a 79 percent job growth rate with an average earnings per job of $83,335. Workforce Education

Through a one-of-a-kind collaboration with the Lee’s Summit R-7 school district, local colleges and universities and industry leaders, Lee’s Summit strives to create a competitive, highly-trained workforce beginning from post-secondary education through a four-year degree. Lee’s Summit is home to numerous educational institutions that offer advanced training for manufacturing/distribution professionals.

  • Summit Technology Academy (STA), located in Lee’s Summit, is a national model career-focused academy to prepare students for the professional workforce. STA has a designated academy focused on Digital Electronics, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Aerospace Engineering, and Engineering Design & Development. This program is offered starting at a student’s junior year of high school.
  • Metropolitan Community College - Longview in Lee's Summit offers Associate Degrees in Business Logistics Management and Engineering. In addition, Longview offers professional development programs for a variety of technical skills. The college also offers continuing education in Technical Skills & Manufacturing and Transportation & Logistics.
  • The University of Central Missouri Lee’s Summit campus offers a variety of certificates and degrees to prepare students for a career in logistics and distribution including Industrial Management.


Lee’s Summit is 16 miles southeast of downtown Kansas City and is one of the fastest-growing communities in the state of Missouri.
